Hematology Medical Science Liaison - PA / Upstate NY

We are seeking a Medical Science Liaison (MSL) to join our Hematology division and help advance our pipeline by applying expertise and accelerating our pathway to finding a cure.
This role serves as the local medical voice of AstraZeneca in the disease area of interest, building a local medical strategy to improve patient care and outcomes in Pennsylvania and Upstate New York (excluding NYC and Long Island).
Accountabilities
- Establish yourself as a trusted scientific advisor, peer, and expert for both internal stakeholders and external healthcare professionals (HCPs).
- Synthesize HCP insights from multiple segments within a region and communicate them with internal partners.
- Serve as a point of reference for integrating science into proposed business strategies, training, and resources.
- Synthesize and integrate research, summarizing findings in a compelling narrative for various HCP segments.
- Build strong collaboration with key stakeholders across Medical Affairs, Commercial, and Development.
- Lead clinical trials, research activities, and special projects.
Essential Skills/Experience
- Advanced scientific degree required (i.e., Pharm D, MD/DO, PhD, PA or NP) in a relevant health science or clinical field
- Demonstrated expertise in delivering customer-related outcomes in targeted field/territory
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively communicate scientific data to internal and external customers
- Ability to work independently and in groups
- Demonstrated leadership skills, initiative, and problem-solving skills
- Excellent project management ability
- Ability to travel (40-60% by car and plane domestic)
Desirable Skills/Experience
- Doctorate strongly preferred in a health science or clinical discipline
- Prior Medical Science Liaison experience
- Oncology experience

AstraZeneca’s vision in Oncology is to help patients by redefining the cancer-treatment paradigm, with the aim of bringing six new cancer medicines to patients between 2013 and 2020. A broad pipeline of next-generation medicines is focused principally on four disease areas - breast, ovarian, lung and hematological cancers. As well as other tumor types, these are being targeted through four key platforms - immunotherapy, the genetic drivers of cancer and resistance, DNA damage repair, and antibody drug conjugates, underpinned by personalized healthcare and biomarker technologies.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
The Hematology Medical Science Liaison/Sr. MSL is a field-based professional with scientific, clinical and therapeutic area expertise responsible for providing medical and scientific support for AstraZeneca's oncology marketed products, new indications for current products, and compounds in development. The Medical Science Liaison/Sr. MSL engages in scientific exchange with targeted Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs), Key Decision Makers (KDMs), and Healthcare Professionals (HCPs) consistent with Medical Affairs and Therapeutic Brand Teams’ objectives.
The Hematology Medical Science Liaison/Sr. MSL will identify and engage key customers with scientific expertise and business knowledge of AstraZeneca marketed products and compounds in development. This includes developing peer-level relationships with Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs), Key Decision Makers (KDMs) and researchers consistent with Scientific and Medical Affairs strategy and objectives along with identifying pre-clinical, clinical and post-marketing study investigators in alignment with the goals of Clinical Development activities and Therapeutic Brand Teams initiatives.
As a Hematology Medical Science Liaison/Sr. MSL you will provide actionable information that enhances the value and appropriate use of AstraZeneca’s products to internal stakeholders; respond to customer inquiries to ensure focused and balanced clinical and scientific information that supports the appropriate use of AstraZeneca’s products and services and develop appropriate clinical and scientific information that clinically differentiates AstraZeneca’s products.
Additional accountabilities include adhering to internal standard processes and complying with regulatory and compliance requirements along with sustaining expertise in disease state management, emerging therapies and the competitive landscape.
Essential Requirements
- Advanced degree in Pharmacology, Pharmacy, Medicine, Nursing or equivalent
- 2+ years’ experience as a pharmaceutical medical liaison
- Knowledge of oncology customer segments and market dynamics
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in Hematology (academia, pharmaceutical, or other)
- Demonstrated expertise in discussing scientific content and context to multiple audiences
- Experience with clinical research
- Excellent project management ability
- Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills
- Thorough knowledge of regulatory environment
- Strong leadership capabilities
- Ability to travel (30-50%)
Desirable Requirements
- Doctorate in Pharmacology, Pharmacy, Medicine, Nursing or equivalent
- Familiarity with the drug discovery and drug development process
- Pharmaceutical industry experience in Hematology
